Open House, London
Saturday, September 15th, 2007

I went to the 2007 Open House, London, with some photographer friends – Nick, Jeff and Sarah. Nick and Jeff you may remember I went to Sussex with recently, and who I’ll be travelling to Iceland with for a week-long photography tour.
We visited three buildings in the Southwark area but also managed a good walk round and shot exteriors of buildings of interest along the way.
I was tempted with this album to go all black & white again as I had done with Sissinghurst but most of the selected shots had clear blue skies, which I have a thing for, so I kept them in full glorious colour. I guess the clear blue skies aesthetically sets off the lines of the building better than if it were in dark grey. More likely, perhaps, clear blue skies seem somewhat uplifting and in this particular case a reminder that the big smoke isn’t as gloomy as one might think.
I did, however, convert a handful to black & white where I thought the image suited that best. There is sometimes a certain quality in a picture that screams to be turned into black and white. It is usually to do with form or mood.
Nick has posted his photos on his website. I’ll update with more links once the others have posted theirs too. (UPDATE 20.09.07 – Sarah has put up a flickr stream here).
You can find out more about Open House, London on the official website.

Some stunning images here! When seen through your lens, the buildings come alive. Thanks.
