Istanbul, more historically known as Byzantium and then later Constantinople, is a fascinating city. It straddles the Bosphorus Strait and is the only city in the world to be situated across two continents, Europe and Asia. At one time or another the capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires it has been bestowed a long and rich cultural heritage.

The Ottomans certainly left their mark as the skyline is filled with the domes and minarets of mosques. Whilst the founding of modern Turkey in 1923 brought about secularisation it remains largely islamic with over 2,600 active mosques.

The more well-known mosques like the Sultanahmet Mosque (popularly called the Blue Mosque) or the Süleymaniye Mosque are magnificent. Monumental in size and ornate they typify islamic architectural design. Standing inside to look up and admire their great ceilings leaves you in humble awe.

Hi sayang - some stunning pixs - the whole portfolio gives a fairly balanced flavour between old Istanbul and contemporary Istanbul - and I especially liked image 45. By the by, I note some of the pixs have people in them, which if memory serves, you prefer to exclude. The images in these instances work quite well and I think perhaps you might want to try ‘broadening’ your photographic horizons to portraits etc…You might even enjoy experimenting with us human lot.
Love, Hani

Cheers. I thought you might like image 45, but yes, I do prefer to exclude people in my photographs. As you say they work well enough in the instances here and I do take them once in a while when I feel it is appropriate. I even do portraits on occassion! But generally speaking it’s not my forte.

Yo m8y. Nice stuff there. I like the ones of the inside of the domes especially, some of those feel almost like fractal patterns.

Cheers mate. Those domes are amazing aren’t they? The intricacy and variety of the designs just blew my mind away.
